
In January 2007, the Board of Trustees signed a contract with the Village of Richfield to provide complete police coverage to the residents in the Township. Dispatching is centrally located within the Village of Richfield Police Department. Police coverage in the Township and the Village of Richfield is three (3) officers on patrol per shift.
Funding for the contract is by a police levy. The current levy is 3.5 mills and generates approximately $529,446.00 each year in revenue. The 2011 contract amount is $530,000.00 and will remain in effect until after contract negotiations are completed for 2012.
Police Call Statistics for 2010: 11,469 Village of Richfield, 997 Township. The Township percentage of the total calls for the year is 9%.

FACILITY
In April 2002, the police force moved into a new 10,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art police station with expanded jail facilities and a secured evidence room.
Their mission statement reads, “The men and women of the Richfield Police Department are committed to being a professional and caring organization dedicated to the concepts of personal excellence, continuous improvement, integrity, teamwork and service to our community. We believe in the dignity of all citizens and desire to protect individual rights. We aspire to contribute to the quality of life in the community of Richfield by providing efficient law enforcement services. We take pride in our professional performance and image.”
The police department is also involved in a number of “Community Policing Programs.” They are: Safety Town, D.A.R.E., Shop with a Cop, Amber Alerts, and Senior Programs.
