Service Department

The Township Service Department is run by Mr. Jerry Schall, Service Department Foreman and two full-time Service/Road Laborers, Mr. Phil Hrusch and Mr. Don Rentz.  The service department has nearly a combined thirty (30) years of experience.

The Township Service Department is located at 3038 Boston Mills Road with a Brecksville, Ohio 44141 mailing address.  The hours of operation are from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.  The Service Departments' telephone number is 330-659-6483 and residents may leave a voice mail message 24/7 or contact the Township Administration Office.

The Service Department provides maintenance and repairs for all Township roads including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Berming and mowing of and around roads
  • Ditch cleaning
  • Removal of dead animals
  • Road beautification and litter control
  • Storm cleanup
  • Snow plowing and salting of roads.  Winter Season begins November 15 and runs to April 15.  The township does not use cinders.

Funding for many projects initiated by the Service Department is allocated from the 1.3 mills Road and Bridge Levy, which currently generates approximately $199,542.00 annually.  The current 5-year replacement levy, passed in May 2007, is due to expire in 2012.  Monies collected from the motor vehicle license tax, gasoline tax, and permissive motor vehicle license tax also funs the Service Department.

SNOW REMOVAL

The Service Department is responsible for snow and ice control on the 16 miles of designated township roads.  State and County roads in the township are the responsibility of either the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) or the Summit County Engineer's Departmet (COSE).

The snowplowing season begins November 15 and ends on April 15 and requires the concerted efforts of all three (3) service department employees, three (3) snowplow trucks, approximately 1000 tons of salt for the winter season and about five (5) hours to make one (1) complete plowing and salting trip through the township.

The initial goal during snow emergencies is to insure residents' access to emergency services and then as necessary the crew makes additional trips in order the push the snow back to open up the roads to their full width.  Residents are cautioned to no place obstructions along the edge of the roadway and should not park on the roads during snow events.  Please keep a safe distance from the trucks so that the crew can see you in their mirrors.

Residents are responsible to keep the area surrounding their mailboxes clear and should not place snow in the roadway or on the property of others.

The Township Service Department oversees the fifty-five (55) miles of roads within the Township including the maintenance of sixteen (16) miles of actual township roads.  Approximately thirty-nine (39) miles of roads are maintained by the State of Ohio (ODOT) and the Summity county Engineer's Office.
