The Richfield Township Trustee Meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm on May 12, 2003

Ms. Mraz made a motion to approve the April 28, 2003 meeting minutes, seconded by Ms. Gilmore: Mr. Hooper – Absent, Ms. Gilmore – Yes, Ms. Mraz – Yes, motion carried by majority.

Ms. Mraz made a motion to approve Warrant Report # 7742 – 7773, seconded by Ms. Gilmore: Mr. Hooper – Absent, Ms. Gilmore – Yes, Ms. Mraz – Yes; motion carried by majority.

Ms. Mraz announced Chief Canter will not be able to attend tonight’s meeting. FedEx will purchase a police dog for the Village of Richfield Police Department. The trustees received an anonymous letter from a resident that described cars speeding on Hawkins Road near Medina Line Road; this information was passed on the to police department.

Chief Stopak reviewed the April fire and rescue activity: 83 total calls with 22 village fire, 36 village rescues, 16 township fire, 7 township rescues, 1 hazmat and 1 mutual aid. The department just received its new SUV. The new squad car is due in June. The new law regarding privacy disclosures will be a challenge to administer.

Ms. Mraz thanked the residents for their support of the Police and Fire levies.

Mr. Tom Johnson, 2788 Stubins, In light of Mentor marsh fires, he wanted to know what the Village of Fire Department would use to fight such a fire and how they handle a forest fire in our community?

Mr. Stopak – We use a class-A foam on fires that similar to the Mentor marsh fires. On forest fires we have a 1000 feet of inch hose, a 4 x 4 that should be able to gain access, portable canisters, combined with mutual aid form surrounding communities.

Ms. Pinney, Zoning report – There will be a Public Hearing on June 9 to review the proposed R-4 district amendments. No BZA applicants this month.

Ms. Bowmer, Administration report – We requested that the newly cast Ohio Bicentennial bell for the Richfield community days this August. The tire collection day is set for July 12 – limited to Richfield residents and no more than 8 tires. The flyer on the summer chipping program will be the June Richfield Times.

Ms. Gilmore – We received a letter from St. Peregrine’s staff and parents requesting a speed study in front of the school.

Ms. Gilmore read and made a motion to pass Resolution 14-2003, Requesting ODOT to conduct a speed study, seconded by Ms. Mraz; Mr. Hooper – Absent, Ms. Gilmore – Yes, Ms. Mraz – Yes, motion carried by majority.

Ms. Gilmore read and made a motion to pass Resolution 13-2003, Eliminating the 1.1 millage tax levy, seconded by Ms. Mraz; Mr. Hooper – Absent, Ms. Gilmore – Yes, Ms. Mraz – Yes, motion carried by majority.

Ms. Mraz canceled the May 26 Trustee meeting.

Public Forum:

I noticed you hired special counsel for audit review, as a Trustee that was active during the audit period, should I be concerned?

Ms. Mraz –
No. Special counsel was hired to assist the Township in coordinating the separation matter with the Auditor of State.

Ms. Mraz made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:50 p.m., seconded by Ms. Gilmore; Mr. Hooper – Absent, Ms. Gilmore – Yes, Ms. Mraz – Yes; motion carried by majority.
