The Richfield Township Trustees met for their regular meeting on June 7,
2007. The meeting was called to order at 1:37 p.m. with the following in
attendance:
David Wyatt, Trustee Chairman
Laurie Peters Gilmore, Trustee
Shano Cica-Mraz, Trustee
Laurie Pinney, Zoning Inspector
Dale Canter, Richfield Police
Joe Stopak, Richfield Fire
Michael Pickens, Village of Richfield
A motion was made by Ms. Gilmore and seconded by Ms. Cica-Mraz to
approve warrants 4 and 13004 through 13097. The motion passed with
unanimous approval.
Ms. Pinney provided the Fiscal report. She is currently working on the
Budget, which is due to the county in mid July.
Mr. Canter provided the police report. There were 1435 calls in the
Village in May and 172 in the Township. There is a new traffic signal on
Wheatley Road, at I77 on the southbound side. There was recently a
tractor cruise on Brecksville Road. The 200th anniversary will be in
2009 and the Village is beginning to make plans for the celebration.
Mr. Stopak provided the Fire report. A meeting was held recently with
the organizers of the Relay for Life. A squad will be stationed at
Richfield Woods Park during the entire event. The department was asked
to burn a barn at the former Babbs orchard, but they are not able to, so
the owner has thirty days to remove the structure. The staff has
recently completed a driver training program, which will reduce
insurance costs. There were 93 calls in May, with 48 Village Fire , 18
Township Fire, 13 Village ems, 6 Township ems and 8 mutual aid.
Ms. Pinney provided the Zoning report and gave information on upcoming
Board of Zoning Appeals and Zoning Commission dates and applications.
The Parks report was provided by Mr. Wyatt. There has been some
difficulty in scheduling, due to overlap of the soccer and baseball
seasons, but soccer is now primarily over. The township will be
reworking the south baseball field, which will eliminate the 6 by 6
soccer field on the south side of the park.
In announcements, the Trustees have received a letter of resignation
from long-term Board of Zoning Appeals member Ingolf Nitsch. A motion
was made by Ms. Cica-Mraz and seconded by Mr. Wyatt to accept Mr.
Nitsch’s resignation with great regret and much appreciation for his
service to the Township. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
In New Business, Michael Pickens, from the Village of Richfield was in
attendance to provide information on the Emergency Operation Plan. The
Township will be asked to supply information to the plan under the
Continuity of Government Section. The Policy Group will be the Mayor,
President and Vice President of Council and the three Trustees.
A motion was made by Mr. Wyatt at 2:10 to recess for an executive
session scheduled for 2:30. The motion was seconded by Ms. Gilmore and
passed with unanimous approval.
A motion was made at 2:30 by Mr. Wyatt to go into executive session at
2:30 to discuss pending and potential litigation related to zoning
issues with the Briarwood subdivision with legal counsel John Slagter.
The motion was seconded by Ms. Gilmore and passed with unanimous
approval.
A motion was made by Ms. Cica-Mraz and seconded by Ms. Gilmore to go out
of executive session and adjourn at 3:45 p.m. The motion passed with
unanimous approval.
