Park Overview
In 1977,
the United States government deeded 227.82 acres to Richfield and Hinckley Townships for the purpose
of creating a public park and recreation area.
In late 2005 Hinckley and Richfield Township trustees found it was in the best
interest of both communities to terminate this cooperative agreement.
Richfield township assumed sole ownership of the 44.7 acre portion of the Rising
Valley Park located in Richfield Township. The remaining 183.3 acres
located within Hinckley Township was deeded to the Cleveland Metroparks.
The park has the East
Branch of the Rocky River running through it and offers a
diversity of ecosystems. Team sports such as baseball,
softball, and soccer utilize the playing fields. The
park also has picnic areas, hiking and seasonal sled-riding
and cross country skiing.
The south portion of the
park can be accessed via
Oviatt Road and the north portion
of the park and main parking area can be accessed via Newton
Road.
